The “NO-NO” Ingredient List for Skin & Hair Care

April 28, 2017

Stop the Toxins!

Have you ever found yourself staring into a sea of body care products at a store wondering which one is best for you and your family? You grab the nice looking bottle with the word “natural” on it, but after inspecting the ingredients… YIKES!! Confusing, scary, terms with synthetic-sounding phrases blur across your eyes… what is this stuff? Unfortunately, some of it is likely cancer causing and toxic chemicals that have no business being in body care products!

Did you know there exists very little federal regulation on what types of chemicals can be placed into body care products? Engine degreasers, anti-freeze, formaldehyde derivatives, petroleum derivatives and cancer “suspected” causing agents are allowed. In fact, United States EPA studies have confirmed the presence of 1000s of unnatural chemicals present in the bodies of citizens. And, many of these chemicals are found in personal and body care products. What’s worse is many of these substances carry toxic dangers to humans.

Toxic Chem1

The List:
Top Chemicals to Avoid in Body Care Products

• Phthalates
A truly toxic skin care ingredient class: dibutylphthalate and diethylphthalate. Helps lotions absorb into skin. DEHP has been classified as a “probable human carcinogen” by the EPA. Also known by the abbreviations. DEHP, DINP, BzBP, DBP, DEP or DMP. Research has linked phthalates to cancer, birth defects and hormone disruption in humans.

• Parabens, including methyl-, ethyl-, propyl-, benzyl- and butylparabens
Parabens act as preservatives in cosmetics. Research indicates that they may disrupt hormonal pathways and increase the risk for breast tumors and reproductive problems.

• Diethanolamine (DEA), TEA and MEA
The National Toxicology Program (NTP) completed a study that found an association between the topical application of diethanolamine (DEA) and certain DEA related ingredients and cancer in laboratory animals. Chemically similar ingredients used in personal care products are MEA (methylethanolamine) and TEA (triethanolamine).

• Diazolidinyl Urea or Iodopropynyl butylcarbamate
Chemically related to imidazolidinyl urea and is a formaldehyde releaser used as a preservative. Formaldehyde is a known human carcinogen.

• Perfluorinated Chemicals (PFCs)
PFCs have caused cancer in rats, may cause birth defects, and may damage the immune system and disrupt thyroid function. Often hidden in cosmetic ingredients with the words “fluoro” or “perfluoro” in them.

• Artificial Color Additives
Often identified as D&C or FD&C with a number, these chemicals are artificial
additives to color products. Several of these have been linked to skin irritation and allergic reactions. Artificial colors have significant potential to worsen underlying
skin conditions such as eczema.

• Sodium Lauryl Sulfate or Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLS)
Harsh degreasing foaming agent used in engine degreasers and one of the most common ingredients in personal body care products. Dissolves the oils on your skin which can cause a drying effect. Publications in Toxicology journals have demonstrated mutagenic activity due to these ingredients.

• Artificial Fragrances: Often blended petro-chemicals containing multiple contaminants. In fact, the word “fragrance” is often used to cover nearly 4,000 ingredients and most are synthetic, cancer causing or otherwise toxic. Exposure to fragrances has been also shown to affect the central nervous system.

• Mineral Oil
A petroleum derived ingredient often used in creams or balms. Mineral oil is a petroleum derivative that coats the skin. While it can moisturize your skin, it is also prevents your skin from breathing and slows down natural cell development. Plus, it is often contaminated with other toxic petro derivatives that can cause drying to skin tissue. Moms and dads take note: baby oil is 100% mineral oil and should be avoided.

• Propylene Glycol
This is the main ingredient found in Anti-Freeze in your car! Unfortunately, it is found in many personal care items due to its chemical dissolving properties. It also is drying and irritating to the skin. Further research has suggested links with contact dermatitis, kidney damage and liver problems.

Prostate Health: Men’s Focus

April 3, 2017

Prostate Health

If you don’t know what your prostate is or what it does, you’re certainly not alone: most men don’t. But it’s time to get educated! The prostate is a small organ approximately the size of a walnut. It lies below the bladder (where urine is stored) and surrounds the urethra, the tube that carries urine from the bladder. The prostate plays a key role in proper sexual function and also helps protect against bladder infections.

We’ve talked about keeping your heart healthy – and now we’re focusing on prostate health.

More than 50% of men in their 60s and as many as 90% in their 70s experience challenges with an enlarged prostate. And, more than 30 million men suffer from prostate conditions that negatively affect their quality of life. A painful infection of the prostate gland is an issue for men of all ages and affects 35% of men aged 50 and older. Each year more than 230,000 men will be seriously affected by unhealthy prostate tissue and 30,000 will die from it.

The good news is there are proactive ways to keep your prostate healthy. No matter what, exercise regularly, eat more fruits and vegetables and don’t smoke. In addition, there are natural ways to support your prostate with targeted nutritional supplements. Read more…

The Thyroid and Hormones Connection

January 17, 2017

Your Thyroid… A Tiny Gland that Does a Massive Job

You may be among those who aren’t aware just how important your thyroid is. Located just below your voicebox, your thyroid works in synergy with a whole host of glands to keep your body functioning properly. Its primary job is to produce special hormones that influence nearly every organ, tissue and cell in your body. It signals the cells to perform and regulate various critical functions.

Hormones generated by the thyroid tell the cells if they should be consuming more oxygen and nutrients – otherwise known as the “rate of metabolism.” Hormones also play an important role to:
Stimulate the heartbeat and cholesterol utilization and energy production
Support muscle strength and jointsdreamstime_l_arms-back25464952
Help keep your body’s calcium level in proper balance
Support the normal regulation of your body temperature
Regulate female menstrual cycle
Impact brain function and nerve function
Support bowel regularity
Promote healthy skin

Checklist: Is my Thyroid working properly?

When your thyroid isn’t working at its best, the body gets out of balance: A thyroid that is not performing at full tilt may contribute to you feeling:
• Occasionally fatigued
• Forgetful
• “Blue” and sluggish
• Experience dry hair, nails, and skin
• Occasional puffiness
• Irregularity stints
• Your body’s internal thermostat may seem off-kilter
• Mild discomfort or weakness in joints and muscles
• Cholesterol levels fluctuate more than normal

pain joints.jpg

Often the results of your thyroid performing below its optimal level creeps up and is a slow-progressing situation. You may have a little more trouble making it through the day, or you may look in the mirror and appear more aged than before. You may notice a mild ache or occasional tiredness in your muscles or joints even after walking a short distance. Most people say they just don’t feel like their former self.

Be reassured there are tests for an under-performing thyroid, and a number of options are available. As always, you should seek the advice of a medical practitioner to be evaluated, and for ongoing care if needed. In some rare instances, a person may experience an overly active thyroid. This situation should also be evaluated by a medical professional.

ATP Pro: The Currency of Life

July 1, 2016

You have a million things to do today. And, what’s the one thing you absolutely need to get them done? Energy.

Energy makes your muscle work, keeps your heart beating, helps your brain perform, and so much more.

Arobics_11

Where does this energy come from in your body?

ATP, or Adenosine triphosphate, is a vital compound that stores your body’s energy in the cytoplasm and nucleoplasm of every cell of yours. Otherwise known as the “currency of life,” ATP is needed for the extraordinary amount of energy your body must produce and use each and every day.

However, your cells have a limited supply of ATP to perform all of the necessary functions your body requires of it. The moment your body starts performing strenuous work, high intensity exercise, health challenges, or even natural aging, the necessary oxygen flow and deliver gets restricted and the body’s store of critical cellular energy is reduced.

D-Ribose can help!

D-ribose provides the basic foundation for ATP and facilitates ATP being synthesized by the body. Frankly, without D-ribose, there would be no ATP. We would be left energy deficient as D-ribose helps replenish the energy levels that do get depleted once we draw upon our ATP reserves. The problem, however, most people don’t realize that when their energy stores are reduced, it can take up to several days for them to return to normal.

The solution?

Screen Shot 2016-06-01 at 1.17.08 PMWhether you’re a person who acts the best with their “battery” fully charged, an athlete, constantly doing strenuous work, or even suffer from fatigue or constant low-energy issues, a D-ribose supplementation with ATP pro can lead to beneficial effects that will positively change how you are able to spend your day.

Eniva ATP Pro contains a clinically tested and patented form of D-Ribose. It contains no artificial colors, flavors, or stimulants. It is gluten free, vegan, and vegetarian friendly. Just stir into juice or water to get that boost of energy your body needs. To learn more about Eniva ATP Pro visit http://eniva.com/atp-pro-5-3-oz/.

Why We All Need A Little More Vitamin C

June 20, 2016

Vitamin C is a powerhouse antioxidant. Whether facing cold and flu season, unsteady joint movement, or hoping to better support your digestion and eyes, Vitamin C helps support the body in more ways than one. An essential human nutrient, Vitamin C helps the body stay strong in the face of harmful free radicals, infections, pollutants and toxins, acts as an inhibitor of histamine, and can support the effectiveness of other antioxidants including Vitamin E.

  • Vitamin C aids with structural integrity in the body. It is required for the synthesis of collagen, the material that gives structure to bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, and muscles. It also supports the normal health of gums and teeth.
  • Provides an immune boost like none other.*
  • Vitamin C helps support the metabolism of bile acid, important for digestion and the maintenance of normal cholesterol levels in the body.
  • Aids absorption of iron and other antioxidants, including Vitamin E.
  • Plays a role in the normal synthesis of hormones and neurotransmitters.
  • Critical nutrient for eye health and vision.

prod_vit_c_9002__23914.1429887782.1280.1280Most people are not getting enough Vitamin C in their diet and supplementation can help fill in the gap.
